Admissions Requirements

Bachelor's degree

GRE general test (subject test strongly recommended)

TOEFL exam (for non-native English speakers only). The minimum scores are: 600 paper-based, 250 CBT and 100 computer-based iBT.

Applicants who have earned a degree from an institution where the medium of instruction is English (i.e.U.S., United Kingdom, Australia, etc.) are exempt from submitting a TOEFL score.

Application deadlines-These are the dates by which applications must be received by the Physics Department. The online application will be disabled at midnight (EST)on January 15th. We encourage you to finish the application in advance of the deadline.

Supporting materials, including test scores, must be received in the department by January 4th for international applicants and January 25th for domestic applicants.

In order to apply to the Graduate Program in Physics you must apply on-line through the Rackham School of Graduate Studies* web site. Application forms will not be mailed.
Note: The Physics Department does not grant application fee waiver requests. All applications must be accompanied by the appropriate application fee.
