Girls in Science and Engineering

On average, the Girls in Science and Engineering Program (GISE@UM) brings fifteen girls to the Physics Department each summer. The one-week, day program is designed for seventh and eighth grade girls who wish to explore the world of science while having fun with physics. Activities include hands-on laboratory experimentation, computer simulations, and career exploration.

During their time spent with physics and applied physics graduate students and faculty, the girls had the opportunity to build and launch a rocket, and experiment with electronic circuits, optics, and superconductors; all through physics.

GISE@UM is sponsored by the University of Michigan, Women in Science and Engineering Program in cooperation with the UM Medical School, College of Engineering, and College of Literature, Science and the Arts with a grant from the National Science Foundation.
