Lecture by Costas Cartalis: "The Double Challenge of Globalization and Regionalization — the Greek Case"

Constantinos Cartalis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Athens and President of the Andreas Papandreou Institute for Strategic and Development Studies.

As the EU examines the opportunities and challenges of globalization and how to maintain security for its citizens in a world of unprecedented movement of goods, capital and services, a few facts remain: the rejection of the EU Constitutional Treaty by France and the Netherlands, the failure of the Union’s Heads of State and Government to agree on a budget, and a reluctant invitation to Turkey to start negotiations on accession to the EU. There are clearly challenges facing EU and its nation states.

What is the European economic and social policy for the future? How do Europeans perceive globalization? Do European integrations lead to a new form of "regionalization"? Professor Cartalis will examine the double challenge of globalization and regionalization in the EU, focusing on Greece.
