Who are your key audiences? LSA Communications informs key audiences of the College's educational and fundraising priorities. Alumni, faculty, students, prospective students, parents, campus administrators, peer institutions, and the public via the news media are crucial groups to convey timely information to – and you must use the right vehicles to reach each. We reach these diverse groups through a variety of means, including LSAmagazine, LSA News on our website, campus consultations and workshops, and news coverage.
- LSAmagazine, the magazine of the College, reaches 150,000 alumni, UM administrators, and LSA faculty and staff, and is the only College communication that reaches all of our alumni. Issues are theme-based to reflect the College's strengths and priorities: internationalism, social science, literature, science, and the arts. We solicit content for each issue from a host of sources, including LSA Key Administrators.
- LSA News and Media Relations
LSA News on the LSA gateway is a repository for recent news on LSA faculty, research, and students. With one click, a website visitor can read newspaper accounts and news releases on the exciting research, teaching, and learning taking place in the College. We also send out email alerts to LSA administrators of particularly significant coverage.
Media Relations is important to successful communications since newspapers and broadcast news affect public opinion. Managing the media takes preparation and responsiveness. We can help you think through whether a news item in your department might be worth pitching to local, regional, or national media. We can also help train your departmental leaders for media interviews. Finally, we can help you manage situations that have the potential to become bad publicity.
If your unit has news of interest or would like help with media relations please contact Maryanne George.
- Campus Consultations and Workshops provide an opportunity for LSA Communications staff to meet with departmental staff over common issues, such as how best to produce newsletters, craft fundraising appeals, publicize events internally and externally, and integrate printed materials with websites. LSA Communications staff are available to discuss these and any communications questions you may have.
- LSA Key Communicators: Our office has created and maintains a group of more than 100 staff whose jobs include communications. This group meets regularly and shares best practices. Joining the LSA Key Communicators group connects you to timely news, information, and resources to make your unit's communications efforts more efficient and effective.
