It should be clear that attending the commencement ceremony does not mean that you have officially graduated. 

The Academic Auditors will verify that you have met all your degree requirements once ALL your final grades appear on your transcript.   After your recored has been evaluated, you will receive a certified letter from our office stating whether or not you have graduated and if not, which requirements remain unsatisfied.  

Once your degree is conferred, it will appear on your transcript (on both your official record and the unofficial copy available to you on Wolverine Access.)   The Academic Auditors Office issues verification of graduation letters for graduates whose degrees are not yet conferred on their transcript. If you would like a letter verifying your graduation mailed to a graduate school, law school, or future employer, please e-mail the address to the Academic Auditors Office (lsa.auditors@umich.edu) and a letter will be sent on your behalf.  The auditors can also fax these letters, but be aware that the University seal that makes the letter official will not appear on a faxed copy. 

Once your degree is conferred only the Registrar's Office can provide a verification of graduation letter for you.
