When selecting course elections for a particular term it is a good idea to use the full range of on-line resources to assist you in making the best decisions possible. Your first step should be to check your progress on fulfilling all general and concentration/minor requirements. That gives you a good idea of what specific types of courses you may need to plan into your schedule and will give you some ideas for courses that you may want to take in the upcoming term.
Your second step should be to use the LSA Course Guide. Use this resources to search the term’s course offerings for specific types of courses and, through the course descriptions, learn details that will help you decide if a specific course is the one for you.
After you have identified courses that look interesting to you and that will satisfy any particular degree requirements or goals that you have for the term, you should turn to the Time Schedule to identify course sections that will work together. At the same time, you will use Wolverine Access to first “backpack” courses and sections that you are interested in considering and, later, to actually register for your final selection of courses.
You will want to make sure you are familiar with the information available on the Registrar’s Office home page. They provide information on final exam schedules, campus maps, tips on the registration process, etc. If you have difficulties with registration, you will want to consult their office.
At orientation, your advisor will help you register. For each term afterwards, you will be doing it on your own. Many students still make appointments to speak with their advisor before registration., although you are not required to do so. To make an appointment, either stop by our office in 1255 Angell Hall, or call our front desk at 764-0332. If you have questions about the registration process, we have many resources to help.
FAQs Registration
Do I have to do anything special to register for Spring or Summer classes?
No. Registration for Spring and Summer half-terms takes place at the same time as registration for Fall term.
How is my registration appointment time determined?
Priority for early appointment times is determined by the number of credits you have completed, plus the credits in which you are currently enrolled. Students with more credits will generally receive earlier times, but times are allocated randomly within groups of students who have roughly the same number of credits.
How do I find out when my registration time is for the next term?
Notice of your actual assigned early registration time is posted in Wolverine Access and an e-mail is sent to each student.
What if I want to take more than 18 credits?
Registration will not allow you to elect more than 18 credits during a full term, or more than 9 during a half term. If you wish to take such an overload you must obtain permission from an academic advisor.
I do not want to register for next term, because I'm taking some time off. Do I need to do anything special?
Nope. Just don't register. If you've already registered and decide not to attend, you may disenroll anytime before the first day of classes. You should, however, do so as soon as you know that you will not attend to free up spaces in the classes you are registered for and to avoid the disenrollment fee, should you not disenroll by the first day of classes.
How do I find out if a class has seats reserved for a specific group of students?
Information about seats reserved for a specific group of students appears in a field called Open Seats Reserved For on the Class Details page in Wolverine Access. This field displays directly beneath the Open Seats field, and does not display unless the class was set up with seats reserved for a specific group of students.
How do I waitlist a class?
If a class is closed and has a waitlist available, the 'Add me to waitlist if this class is closed' option will appear as a checkbox you can select on the Class Details page for this class.
