Internships
Scandinavian Internships Summer Internships in Sweden (Eight weeks) With two years of Swedish, University of Michigan students can go to Sweden for eight weeks to participate in summer internships, and then get U of M credit by taking a 3-credit course on campus during the semester after the internship. This course also counts towards the new Minor in Scandinavian Studies. Our first Scandinavian intern was Nicole Paglia, who did an internship at Rocket Radio in Stockholm. You can read her report by clicking here. Since then, several other students have enjoyed themselves, practiced their Swedish, and learned many important, new skills by doing an internship in Scandinavia. The internship program is subsidized by the Department's Swedish Language Fund and by generous donations by the Mott Foundation in Flint, Michigan. We are always looking for additional funding from friends and alums of the program: click here to learn about the many ways you can help support our internship program financially. We are also looking for business contacts in Sweden. Is your company interested in having a bright American intern who speaks Swedish? If you are interested in participating or helping, please contact the Director of the Scandinavian Program, Johanna Eriksson (734-764-8018). ASF's training program: U.S. to Scandinavia The American-Scandinavian Foundation's training program enables Americans between the ages of 21 and 30 to live and work in Scandinavia on a temporary basis. The program's emphasis is on gaining cultural and educational experience. The trainee receives sufficient income from the trainer to cover living expenses during the period of training, but is expected to cover the cost of round-trip airfare. ASF offers short-term placements in different fields, and work-permit assistance for "self-placed" Americans who have arranged their own assignments in Scandinavia. For more information: |
