Welcome Back, Alums!

Thank you enormously for all your interest in our programs! It is an extraordinary pleasure and privilege to be assuming the leadership of a department so energetically supported by its friends. I hope you will feel free to contact me directly, but during the coming academic year, the outgoing chair, Frederick Amrine, will continue acting as the Department Development Officer.

Alas, the news is not all good. Our allocation from the State of Michigan has already been reduced significantly, and further rounds of cuts are imminent. As you can perhaps imagine, each round hurts more than the last, as we are forced to cut ever more deeply into the substance of our programs. Even in the best economy, we depend heavily on the generosity of our alums and friends as we strive to offer the widest possible range of services to our students. In this challenging climate, your financial support is needed more than ever. To learn about the many ways you can help, please click on "How to Donate" in the column at the left. Your gifts are much needed, well used, and always deeply appreciated.

With best wishes to you all,

Geoff Eley, Chair
