About Luis Gómez

Professor Gomez specializes in Mahayana Buddhism and in the history of early Chan.  He is especially interested in Mahayana Sutras, Mahayana religious practice and speculation, and exegetical literature.  Professor Gomez also works on the “Pure Land” and Zen traditions of East Asia.  He is also interested in the psychology of religion and the clinical and adaptive dimensions of obsessionality, rigid behaviours, and ritualization.  In addition to numerous articles and encyclopedic entries, he is the author of The Land of Bliss and coeditor of Studies in the Great Vehicle and Barabadur: History and Significance of a Buddhist Monument
